Foundry: a workshop or factory for casting metal.

"Fundere" (Latin): To Melt

Our Story

The Foundry is an experiential learning studio and creative community space. As our name suggests, we guide students through the ancient craft of sculpting wax for lost wax metal casting, while also incorporating the beauty of polished stones and gems, giving you the tools to bring your jewelry visions to life.

Our studio was largely born as an antidote to some of the downfalls of modern life: in an age of screens and virtual connections, we wanted to provide a space where we can gather with others without pressure, be present and undistracted, while discovering the empowerment and joy of creating with our own hands, especially with such a uniquely transformative material like wax. We emphasize experimentation and progress over perfection and openness to the unexpected, while meeting others in real life.

Welcome to The Foundry.

Ancient Origins: A Timeless Craft

Lost-wax casting is one of humanity's oldest metalworking techniques, with archaeological evidence dating back over 6,000 years. This process was independently developed by civilizations across the globe—from the Bronze Age artisans of Mesopotamia and the Indus Valley, to the master craftspeople of ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, China, Africa, India, and the Americas.

In ancient times, lost-wax casting was reserved for creating objects of profound significance: ceremonial vessels, religious sculptures, royal regalia, and intricate jewelry that adorned temples and tombs, giving lasting form to one’s most cherished beliefs.

“The key to staying sharp in old age is in your fingers. From your fingers to your brain, and back again. If you keep your fingers busy, you’ll live to see one hundred.”
